A Rockstar Ferrari For Sale: Stairway To Dino

A Ferrari that once belonged to Peter Grant is to go under the hammer at the new COYS auction and could sell for £400,000.

Quite The Legend

Who is Peter Grant you ask? He was the manager of legendary rock band Led Zeppelin so this Fezza certainly has rockstar status.

The car in question is a 1973 Ferrari 246 Dino GTS which was owned by Grant from new with options such as non-metallic paint and leather upholstery selected. At the time it would have set you back £6,620.39 – don’t forget this was the Seventies – but today this special Dino could fetch anywhere between £300,000-£400,000. Under the bonnet lies a 2.4 litre V6 engine which mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox offered 192 bhp – low by today’s standards.

The Dino’s Swan Song

The Dino will be auctioned next week but time was found for the car to retrace its footsteps to a place it once called home – Kings Road, Chelsea. It was here where Swan Song Records, the band’s record label used to be based and a road that Peter Grant would have driven many a time. One last drive has now been completed as the Dino gets ready to go in to the hands of a new owner.

Speaking of which, the classic Ferrari will feature at the COYS ‘Thoroughbreds and Vintage at Fontwell’ auction located at Fontwell House in West Sussex. It takes place on the 8th of September and the Ferrari will be joined by 60 other classic cars, including Mini Cooper S once driven by Paddy Hopkirk and Timo Makinen.

Chris Routledge, CEO of COYS, said: “London is filled with mythical places reminding us of the city’s rock n’ roll and music legacy. Swan Song Records was Led Zeppelin’s own record label, overseen by Peter Grant and used by the band to promote its own products as well as sign new upcoming artists. It’s not hard to imagine Peter Grant driving the Dino around Chelsea and parking it outside the studio back in the day, before meeting with the band.”
