Rivian Electric Truck Price
The Rivian electric truck comes in two main trims. There is the Explore model that will cost you $79,500. The Adventure model costs around $85,000.
Keep in mind that there’s the Launch edition which is the model that first came out but the company sold out all of them. Customers who are interested in the Rivian truck can only choose between the Explore model and the Adventure model.
The Adventure model costs more for a reason and comes with a meridian stereo, ventilated front seats, better upholstery, and wooden interior trims.
Rivian Truck Price Increase
Back in March Rivian company had said it would increase the base prices for its four motor R1T truck by $12,000 as well as the R1S SUV by $14,500.
However, Rivian got a huge backlash from customers especially since the customers who had already purchased the vehicles were also subject to the price increases.
Later the CEO of Rivian, RJ Scaringe, said in an open letter that the new prices would not apply and that the company would honor the original prices provided that the customers had bought the vehicles before the announcement.
The reason for the price increase was due to the widespread inflation as well as the issues faced by the supply chain. Tesla would handle this problem via alternative methods.
Many other car manufacturers haven’t fared so well. Customers saw increased car prices that rose for a straight eight months. On average, car prices rose by 13% each year.
Rivian first released its new trucks in the December of 2021. The MRSP was set at $67,500 for the quad motor version of the car. The truck was well received by customers as the company share prices rose by 67% within just one week of trading.
What Happened To The Rivian Truck Price
Back on March 1st, Rivian stated that it would increase the Rivian truck price of the R1T. This notice was on the company website and meant that the R1T which started at $67,500 now had a price of $79,500.
Secondly, the R1S SUV by Rivian that started at $70,000 would now cost $84,500.
Furthermore, customers also had the option of choosing a truck with dual motors instead of 4 motors which also came with a smaller battery pack.
Rivian gave the reason for the increased prices as being the fact that the company was facing immense inflation pressures, heightened costs of components, and huge supply chain issues that resulted in shortages and delays.
Rivian R1T
The Rivian R1T still comes with a four-motor design and a large battery pack of 128.9 kWh. Customers expect that the Rivian R1T with a smaller battery pack sometime next year.
Furthermore, the company also promises to offer a dual motor setup capable of up to 600 horsepower.
Rivian Truck Price – Power And Performance
You get the Rivian R1T with an all-wheel drive setup. However, this is unlike what you will see in the Tesla Model X. This is because every wheel has its own electric motor.
This impressive truck produces up to 865 horsepower and can move from a standing still position to 60 miles an hour in just 3.3 seconds. With those statistics alone, it is one of the fastest pickup trucks on the market today.
Furthermore, the car comes with an adjustable air suspension which allows you to increase the ground clearance from 8 inches to 14 inches. This is a huge advantage when planning to drive off-road.
Rivian also boasts the “Tank Turn” which is a feature that allows the individual electric motors to work separately. They are thus able to turn the right wheels in opposite direction to the left wheels which allows the whole truck to turn on its axis.
One thing for sure is that the Rivian R1T is a performer both on-road and off-road.
Rivian Truck Price – Towing Capacity
Rivian claims that you can tow upwards of 11,000 pounds. One thing to note is that the pickup is going to deplete its battery by a significant margin by doing this.
For people who are planning to do a lot of towing, it is important to consider the largest battery pack that Rivian is planning to offer at some point in 2023.
Rivian Truck Price – The Range
Currently, the R1T is available with the current large battery pack that has a 128.9 kWh capacity and a range of 314 miles.
However, this is per the company and real-world testing often comes to around 220 miles. This is if you are rocking 20-inch tires and are driving on the highway at 75 miles per hour.
Increasing the size of the tires to 22 inches and maintaining speed on the highway sees a decrease in range to about 280 miles.
That said, Rivian claims that it will release a model with a smaller battery back that is able to do a 260-mile range. It also claims that at the same time it will offer an even larger battery pack than the current one that is able to offer 400 miles range.
Rivian Truck Price – Interior Design And Comfort
The Rivian R1T has a spacious interior that features top-notch leather, wood accents, and a large infotainment system. There is plenty of storage space at the front hood as well as at the back bed. You can also enhance your pickup truck bed by installing a truck cap.
There is also extra space behind the cab of the Rivian truck. According to the company, drivers have up to 12 cubic feet of storage space.
There is also a collapsible crossbar system. This helps you mount extra gear above the cabin and the bed. On the bed of the pickup truck, you also get an air compressor as well as 3 outlets each of which provides 110 volts.
The Connectivity And Infotainment System
Before we look at the infotainment system, the dashboard has a sleek contoured design on which the infotainment system sits.
This one is 16 inches and also has a secondary digital readout. You can control the climate, media, navigation, etc. from the expandable menu of the infotainment system.
It is really user-friendly and instead of multiple submenus, all you need to do when controlling the Rivian trucks infotainment system is to expand the main menus.
Rivian R1S
The Rivian R1S is another large EV from Rivian that has caught the attention of many EV enthusiasts, especially those who enjoy taking their vehicles off-road.
The Rivian R1S was designed to compete with the Model X from Tesla. It features a three-row sitting which makes it among the few EVs that have this configuration.
Speaking of off-road, the Rivian R1S has an adjustable air suspension that can raise the vehicle’s ground clearance to 15 inches. This is one inch further than in the Rivian R1T.
That said the R1S shares a lot in common with the R1T as it is set on the same platform such as the same 129 kWh battery that can offer a driving range of 316 miles on a single charge.
It also comes with a quad motor configuration which means that each wheel has its own motor.
The benefit of this is that the driver gets to enjoy up to 865 horsepower and a huge towing capacity. That said, Rivian plans on releasing a dual motor option able to deliver 600 horsepower. Furthermore, the manufacturer also promises to release an R1S with an even larger battery pack.
Rivian Truck Price – The Price
Since the launch edition of the Rivian R1S is no longer available customers can only go with the Adventure model. This one will cost you around $91,000.
The base model will feature quad motors, a large spacious interior, and have pretty much the same features as the R1T pickup truck.
The great part is that the R1S comes with plenty of personalization and configuration options including wheel size and interior styling and color code.
Rivian Truck Price – Power And Performance
The Rivian R1S features the same power train as that in the Rivian R1T. This involves quad motors set to a 289 kWh battery. This produces around 835 horsepower.
As a result, the R1S is incredibly fast for its size and can move from 0-60 mph in around 3.3 seconds. Furthermore, you can expect the Rivian to provide excellent handling, a comfortable ride, and superb off-road features.
As we saw earlier, the Rivian R1S has an adjustable air suspension that is able to raise the ground clearance room from 8 inches to 15 inches which is even more than the R1T.
Rivian Truck Price – Towing Capacity
The Rivian R1S does pretty impressively when it comes you its towing capacity. For one the truck is able to pull up to 7,700 pounds. However, as well saw with the Rivian R1T, this is expected to reduce the range significantly.
Speaking of range…
Rivian Truck Price – The Range
The Rivian R1S has a 289 kWh battery. This gives it a range of around 316 miles on a single charge. However, keep in mind that towing will significantly reduce the range with a heavy weight being pulled at the back.
That said, Rivian also plans to offer a small battery pack with a dual motor set up able to provide 260 miles of range or a large battery pack able to provide up to 400 miles of range.
Keep in mind though that in real-life driving you may not hit the stated ranges and may only achieve a slightly shorter range.
Rivian Delivery Date
Rivian Company started producing its trucks and fully electric SUVs in September. At the end of 2021, the company was ready to increase its production and deliveries. Considering that many truck enthusiasts were already used to seeing trucks such as the RAM 1500, the Rivian was a welcome sight.
After seeing what the new electric car could do and all the specs that it came with, it was no surprise that the excitement was building.
Many forums on Rivian suddenly became active especially after the company started sending emails to reservation holders informing them of the Rivian delivery dates.
Forums went as far as creating polls that showed when the majority of customers would receive their vehicle. The majority of respondents claimed that the estimated dates for delivery were anywhere between March and June of 2022 for the Rivian R1T.
On the other hand, Rivian SUV customers would have to wait between June and September to get their vehicles.
Keep in mind that these periods are set only for the first launch edition models. Car buyers know that these models are the first to arrive before the SUVs and the standard trucks.
Still, this is quite impressive considering this is a new company that has not been in existence for as long as other automobile manufacturers in the industry.
Rivian Range
The Rivian R1T is quite compelling when it comes to performance and range. It features great tech, has a lot of practicality and the truck performs in ways that revolutionize pickup truck design. It is no wonder that the Rivian truck has been so well received and is in great demand.
People, however, want to know all about its towing capacity and how pulling heavyweight affects its overall range. Okay, granted people are aware of the manufacturer’s claims that the Rivian can tow 11,000 pounds. But what does this do to the vehicle’s range?
According to owners who already paid the Rivian truck price and have their hands on their Rivian R1T, the range is quite impressive. According to one source, the truck towed 7000 pounds for a 500-mile journey. The source said that in the first leg, the R1T would consume 1.02- 1.07 miles per kilowatt hour.
With a 135 kWh battery pack, this, therefore, means that the car can drive between 137 and 144 miles on a full charge while pulling 7000 pounds.
Since the Rivian R1T is said to offer 314 miles of range, then this would mean that you could only manage 45% of this range when towing 7000 pounds. This is not the worst when you consider everything.
But if there is one thing about our roads is that they are not always flat. You may find yourself having to go uphill. The Rivian truck shines here as it can pull the weight on an incline.
Not surprisingly though that the range dropped significantly. The consumption this time was 0.66 miles per kilowatt hour. This, therefore, means that in this case, the range would only go to 90 miles.
Rivian Tank Turn
Back in 2019, Rivian released a video on YouTube of the 2022 Rivian R1T doing a tank turn. Since then the video has gone viral and customers just could wait to get their hands on a Rivian truck.
However, the Rivian has delayed the tank turn according to management and there are several reasons why they decided to do this.
But first what is a tank turn? Well, this is a feature that is available on the quad motor platform of the Rivian R1S and the Rivian R1T. How this works is that the motors on one side of the truck rotate the wheels in one direction while the motors on the other side of the truck rotate the wheels in an opposite direction
This causes the vehicle to turn on its axis. While the concept is super simple, it has gotten manufacturers concerned about passenger safety.
First off, when it comes to the Rivian tank turn video, this one was filmed in a best-case scenario. Other situations may be different and there are plenty of variables that come into play.
Is It Worth It?
For one, not all wheels will experience the same grip and some wheels will spin more than others will. And granted, the onboard computer receives information from the suspension inputs but when the car comes to a dead stop, there is no way for the wheels to know which part has the best grips.
To ensure that the truck does a proper tank turn, each wheel must receive just the right amount of power.
Secondly, the wheelbase is not identical at the front and the back. Because of this, you can’t expect the truck to move in a circle in the same spot. This is especially the case when the surface is not the same.
The result is the vehicle spinning out of control and moving in any direction. This is why it’s important that Rivian puts up a safeguard and ensures that the vehicle doesn’t spin out of control.
Thirdly, to perform a perfect tank turn this should be done on flat ground. Only then can the driver get the results they are looking for without putting their safety at risk while keeping the vehicle safe from potential damage.
If the car is not flat and is inclined, then the vehicle will spin towards the incline. It is important therefore that safety features are inbuilt into the car. The truck could spin into a tree or even a ditch.
Keep in mind also that the wheels need to spin at high revolutions to enable the truck to spin. As a result, this can end up scaring the drivers as the truck spins more and more.
If a driver panics and loses control. The car could end up in a ditch somewhere.
Room For Improvement
Once you look at tank turn from this perspective, it becomes clear that there is still a lot that the engineers at Rivian still need to do to perfect it and ensure that this feature is more useful than it is potentially harmful.
Very often the tank turn will only prove easy and safe when doing it in wide open spaces. While it can prove a great off-road feature to get you out of stuck situations, off-road situations rarely involve flat and open spaces.
The engineers at Rivian, therefore, are focusing on getting the R1S and the R1T truck to move off the door most smoothly and perfectly without any issues. They, therefore, spent giving tank turn the most attention. At least though you can still add aftermarket improvements such as tinting your Rivian, just saying!
However as the sales for the Rivian SUV and pickup trucks continue to improve, they can perhaps perfect the tank turn in the Rivian R2 and the R3 models. For now, though, this is a feature that will probably only be there to impress friends and family and isn’t at the top of their priority list.
