Lamborghini Won’t Make A RWD Aventador, It’s Too Powerful

Lamborghini make a lot of variants of their cars, doing their best to please as many customers as possible. They have just introduced the Huracan LP580-2, a  rear wheel drive supercar. But Lambo have confirmed that they won’t be making a rear wheel version of the most powerful Aventador.

Lamborghini RWD Aventador – Big Thrills

Enthusiast drivers are often after rear wheel drives over four wheel drive cars as they provide big thrills. Often, putting lots of power through two wheels rather than four is a bit of a challenge to the driver, which means it is more exciting.

6.5-Litre Naturally Aspirated V12 Engine’s 690bhp

To be fair to Lamborghini, I don’t know how some of their customers were expecting them to try and put the 6.5-litre, naturally aspirated V12 engine’s 690 bhp through just the rear wheels. That’s 345bhp per wheel! When you think about it, that’s more power than most fast saloons.

Understeer Issues

I haven’t been lucky enough to drive either yet, but some drivers do complain that the Aventador isn’t as exciting to drive as the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Apparently, this is due to the understeer from the Lamborghini’s four wheel drive system. However, there is doubt that customers would then complain over extreme oversteer problems, if they made a rear wheel drive version.

The Aventador can only be four-wheel drive because we have so much power and torque to manage; only with four driven wheels are you able to manage this. This is mainly due to the state of the art control systems that we have on the car today. So when we plan Aventador derivatives, we maintain four-wheel drive. – Research and development director Maurizio Reggiani

Fair Decision

In my opinion, it’s fair decision from Lamborghini. If the customers don’t like it, then it sounds like Lamborghini are telling them where to go.
