BMW M4 GTS – Fastest Production BMW Ever

The new BMW M4 GTS has changed everyone’s perspective on BMWs since unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California earlier this year, but what makes it so special?

BMW M4 GTS – What Is It?

BMW’s latest M car certainly looks promising. With a 493bhp straight-six engine and lightweight carbon fibre body (splitter, bonnet, roof, wing and rear diffuser), it’s easy to see how this is the fastest production BMW ever. Weighing only 1,510kg – 30kg less than the existing M4 – the GTS can achieve 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds and 190mph flat out, whereas the normal M4 takes 4.3 seconds to reach 62mph and is limited to 155mph. However, the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is the same, as is the launch control.

OLED Lighting

For the first ever time for BMW, the M4 GTS will feature a pair of OLED tail lights, which are new organic LEDs. However, unlike normal LEDs that emit light in points, OLEDs light up over their entire surface in a much sharper glow and really helps with the rear aesthetics of the car. BMW say that they hope to bring this new technology to all their cars in the future.

Track Supremacy

The M4 GTS is the fastest BMW ever to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife, in just 7 minutes and 28 seconds which is the same as the McLaren MP4-12C and the Porsche Carrera GT and is actually faster than a Pagani Zonda F and a Koenigsegg CCX. This is owed mainly to an innovative water injection system, which cools the air feeding the turbo – resulting in a massive power increase above 5,000rpm. This and a new titanium exhaust helps result in a 68bhp increase to the original M4.

Where Can I Get One?

Unfortunately, only 700 of these special M4s will be sold, with half of them going to U.S.A and Canada. The UK will only receive 30, each priced at £121,770, which is more than twice the price of a standard M4. All the cars coming to the UK will have Alcantara bucket seats and wrapped steering wheel, as well as GTS branding throughout the interior. A popular option that most cars will also receive is the Clubsport Package which benefits from 6-point harnesses and instead of rear seats gains a roll cage and fire extinguisher.

Conclusion

To conclude, I really do hope to see this car around the UK, as I think it truly is something very special and may just be one of the nicest (and fastest) cars to have come out of Germany.
